Kesha – ‘JOYRIDE’; Pop Icon Taps Into Her Roots

For an emphatic return...

"Article published in CLASH Magazine. Author: Robin Murray."

Kesha is ready to embrace her independence. The singer’s much-publicised route to freedom pushed her to the limit, with a lengthy court case against former producer Dr. Luke leaving an emotional taint on her life.

2023’s ‘Gag Order’ pushed back against this, establishing new boundaries and allowing Kesha to fall back in love with the simple act of making music. On its release, CLASH wrote:

Kesha’s leaving it behind her, and she’s only wishing for peace. Perhaps that’s the biggest fuck you to Mr Snottwald: Kesha’s ended her time with Kemosabe with a record that’s refined in sound and emotionally nuanced. She might be choked by a gag order, but Kesha’s truth rings out loud and clear.

New single ‘JOYRIDE’ inaugurates a fresh era in her life. The first release in a new chapter, it finds Kesha working as an independent artist – and loving every minute of it.

Production comes from Zhone – who steered Troye Sivan’s Grammy-winning ‘Rush’ – while sessions also incorporated input from Madison Love.

The results are, however, pure, unadulterated Kesha. Laden with colour and life, ‘JOYDIE’ breaks free of the rules, and pushes the pedal to the metal. Racing to an incredible, breathtaking finale, Kesha proves that she doesn’t care about expectations – joy is her only goal.

Out now, it comes as Kesha prepares for a high-profile slot at Lollapalooza, while hosting her own House Of Kesha after-show to a very select batch of fans.

The full video is a sight to behold – tune in now.
